To use the Server Studio JE you need to receive your personal User Certificate, which allows encrypting your user profile files using strong encryption and controls access rights to plug-in modules. This encryption is required because user profiles contain stored database servers login information. The Software Asset Management System (SAMS), which serves www.serverstudio.com site, issues user certificates when you make a request using either direct Internet connection or sending generated request file by e-mail to register@serverstudio.com .
The User Certificate is protected by a password, which you choose when you generate a certificate request. This password is never transmitted to SAMS and serves as a private key to your certificate. Nobody will be able to open your user profiles encripted with your certificate without knowing your certificate password. If you forget your certificate password, you will have to update your certificate by changing a certificate password and recreate user profiles encrypted with the old certificate.
When you contact SAMS for a first time, it creates an account and emails you SAMS Account ID and SAMS Password. This account can be used to access restricted areas of www.serverstudio.com/accounts, which deal with your user information and e-commerce portion of SAMS. You can also use SAMS Password to change your User Certificate password if you forgot it. Once the account is created, you can request SAMS to re-send you a copy at any time.
The User Certificate also manages rights for using plug-in modules installed in your configuration. Rights are maintained by adding to a certificate file evaluation or purchased licenses for plug-in modules for each workstation where you use the product. Once you receive a certificate file on a first workstation and attempt to use this certificate on another workstation, the program offers you to add licenses for this workstation to your certificate. Updated certificate is e-mailed to you by SAMS and it can be used on both workstations. The latest version of the certificate is always valid on all workstations, on which you have used the product before.
