Introducing Server Studio

Server Studio is an integrated suite of tools for IBM Informix DBAs and back-end developers.

It provides the following major functions:

Server Studio is a client-side application and does not have to be installed on the database server host. From a single Server Studio installation you can access and manage multiple remote database servers.

The Server Studio has a modular architecture. The application framework contains the following core components:

All other functions are provided by dynamically loaded plug-in modules, such as Server Administrator, DB Difference Analyzer, Data Manager, Permission Editor, and others. Server Studio setup program always installs all available plug-in modules. After the setup is completed, you can exclude from your user profile those modules that are not required in your environment. For example, if you are a back-end developer, you might need only schema management and SQL development functions but do not need database administration functions provided by Server Administrator module. For additional information on Server Studio extensions, see help topics for individual plug-in modules.

In addition, Server Studio serves as GUI client application for Sentinel server. Sentinel server enables proactive performance monitoring of IBM Informix instances, alerting, SQL capture, job automation and historical performance data repository. For additional information on Sentinel, see Performance Monitoring topic under Server Administrator section of this Online Help.
