Color-Coded Database Connections

Color-coding of document tabs in the application frame window per database connection allows you to highlight Server Studio documents with critical connections when working with multiple open documents connected to different database servers. For example, using tab color-coding, you can easily visually differentiate your SQL Editors connected to production databases from SQL Editors connected to development databases.

In addition to document tabs in the application frame window, the status bar of the Object Explorer tree also changes its color based on a connection of the object selected in the tree. For example, when you select a table in the Tables folder, the explorer’ status bar changes its color according to a color, which you selected for this table’s connection. It makes it easier to see on which database the selected object resides in situations when the Object Explorer tree has a large number of nodes and it is impossible to see the parent's Informix connection folder without having to scroll the tree.

To define a color-coding for Server Studio connections, choose Tools - Connection Manager top-level menu. In the General tab of the Connection Manager window, choose a required color in the 'Color for a connection's tabs' dropdown listbox and press Save button to change this setting. If you want to change a color-coding for a different connection, select a required connection in 'Connection' dropdown listbox.

To remove a color-coding for a database connection, choose 'None' from 'Color for the connection's tabs' and press Save button.
