Adding Server
Connections and Connection Groups
You can add required database servers directly to the
Connections folder or you can create logical groups of connections and add
database servers into a group folder. Connection groups are useful when you
have a number of database servers and you want to organize them for easier
access. For example, you can create Production, QA, and Development server
groups. Or you can organize the database servers based on operating system:
Windows NT, Solaris, UNIX, and so forth.
You can also
export the list of stored server connections and connection groups from one user
profile and import it into another user profile. During the export operation,
user login names and passwords are not exported.
To add a database
server to the Object Explorer view
- Select the Connections
folder or a connection group folder and press the Add Connection
button on the Object Explorer toolbar.
You can also choose New -> Connection from
a popup menu, and the Connection Manager dialog box opens.
- You must create a new connection for
this database server.
For additional information on connection
parameter, see the
Connection Manager Dialog Box

You can create more than one connection for the same server,
using, for example, different user login information or a different set
of JDBC environment variables.
